Clinical-Epidemiological and Histological Characteristics of Women with Breast Cancer Carlos Juan Finlay Polyclinic

Abstract

Introduction. Breast cancer in women is a rising worldwide morbidity and mortality, and has been a worrisome disease entity in Cuba. Therefore, this study aims to address the scientific question: what will the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of breast cancer be like in women of the Carlos Juan Finlay teaching polyclinic? The study will describe the clinical-epidemiological characteristic of women with breast cancer diagnosis who are patients of the aforementioned polyclinic. Method. A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. The sample consisted of 15 women. The methods were physical examination, clinical laboratory examination, imaging studies, participatory observations and clinical interviews. These methods were supported by the quantitative methodology and under the paradigm of positivism. Results. Among the breast cancer diagnoses, there was a predominance of women between 40 and 49 years of age with a family history of breast cancer who had used oral contraceptives for more than 6 years. The most common clinical symptoms were pain in the breasts and the palpable tumor. Using an ultrasound machine, a predominance was found of lesions in the upper external quadrant, in the right breast. There were 2 to 2.9 centimeters, as seen in the echogenic images. Meanwhile, the histological finding was mainly Stage I epithelial neoplasm. Conclusions. It is vital to implement community interventions on breast cancer risk factors and increase promotion of breast cancer on social networks; similarly extend this type of study to other areas of health. Carry out a multidisciplinary investigation in search of environmental noxas that are detonating in this nosological entity.
