Psychological Assessment Methodology for the LGBT Community in Adoption Processes in the State of Yucatan

Adoption is experiencing a changing dynamic in scenarios, agreements and requirements that affect the process for same-sex people to be approved. There have been recent advances and initiatives that seek to provide efficacy, transparency and safety of the child before, during and after their adoption. According to figures from the United Nations Children’sFund (UNICEF), there are 1.6 million or phaned minors in Mexico. Initiative that is sues the national adoption law (2021). The constant dynamics in adoption require functional processes from the proposal of a methodology that respects compliance with the norms, laws and codes that protect the welfare of children and adolescents. This includes the official inclusion of applicants from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transexual community (LGBT) in adoption in order to reach the judicial decision that allows the minor to join a new family. The work of psychologists is transcendent as it is the used to in the assessment and approval of potential adoptive parents, especially in evaluating their pyschological suitability as parents.Therefore, a valid and reliable methodology must look at the three primary participants in the adoption process: the minor, the adoptive parents, and the institution responsible through whicht head option processis to take place.
