Analysis of the Neutrophil Lymphocyte Index versus Mean Platelet Volume as a Predictor of Mortality in Patients with SARS CoV2

Introduction. The use of tools such as complete blood count is an affordable alternative and affordable in hospital services, and with this tool we can determine the neutrophil index lymphocytes and mean platelet volume. The objective of this work is to analyze its usefulness as a predictor of mortality in patients with COVID 19. Methodology. Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective design, carriedout at the Dr. Enrique Cabrera General Hospital. Patients with SARS CoV2 infection that had tested positive using a RT-PCR test were included. Results. 306 patients were included. They were 51.2 years ±14 on average. 68% were men. 63.1 were discharged due to improvement. 36.9% died. The mean value of theneutrophil lymphocyteindexwas 12.89, ithsignificant differences between the groups analyzed (11.3 vs 15.6, p=<0.001). The MPV value was 8,489 fL in the deceased patients compared to 8,331 fL in there covered patients (p=0.204). The value with the best performance for INL was 9, with a sensitivity of 72.57%, specificity of 53.37, while that of VPM was 8.3 fL with a sensitivity of 55.75% and specificity of 50.78%, in the analysis by curves of Survival showed better performance for INL with a hazard ratio of 2.38 (p=<0.001) compared to VPM with a hazard ratio of 1.15 (p=0.466). Discussion. The INL showed better performance as a predictor of mortality compared to the VPM, however, more clinical research workis needed in the emergency health services to standardizeits use and makeit a use fultool in the emergency services.
