Abstract

The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by the Mexican government has made it easier for the general public to access data and specialized information through digital platforms linked to electronic government. The use of ICT provides easy access to demographic statistics from government sources of each entity. This allows for the analysis and contrast of the regional development throughout
Mexico. Based on the regionalization of Bassols (1979), eight macro regions are identified in Mexico and
with the help of ICT, four indicators were selected: 1) Population, 2) Economically Active Population (EAP), 3)
Population Growth, and 4) Primary Sector. This essay presents and describes a diagnosis of the eight macro regions of Mexico. The data is then contrasted with the state of Oaxaca through the use of indicators which
identify the factors that impede the development of the population. This essay also addresses the role of the
Primary Sector in the development of the economy in the state of Oaxaca and the eight macro regions.
