 Focus and Reach

Salud y Administración is a circulation of the Universidad de la Sierra Sur that began in 2014. Its objective is to disseminate relevant contributions in the area of health sciences and administration, as well as other related areas. It is published simultaneously on paper (ISSN 2007-7971) and in digital format (ISSN 2448-6159)
The topics that are addressed in the area of health are those related to health sciences from the field of public health, medicine, nursing, psychology, nutrition and related. For the area of social sciences, collaborations are accepted from the field of public administration, business administration, e-government, public policies and related topics.
The published works must correspond to one of the following categories:

Section Policies

Original Articles

Results are presented from an original empirical investigation with the aim of stregthening the knowledge of a discipline or science.
Section evaluated by pairs. Double blind arbitration.
Requirements: 
Minimum range: 1500 words; maximum: 5000 words.
Presentation format of the paper: Introduction, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Conclusions.
Introduction. Fundamental elements will be included in order to understand the article, as well as its objective and justification, based on theoretical-conceptual foundations.
Methodology. Describe the materials, methods and techniques used in the research, type and study population, inclusion and exclusion criteria, sample size and type of sampling, type of instruments used to collect the information, as well as the process followed to analyze the information.
Results.Should be clear, concise and logical, interpreting or summarizing the main findings; they can be presented in tables or diagrams to complement them, but unnecessary information from the tables included in the text should be avoided.
Discussion.New or relevant aspects derived from the analysis of the results have to be highlighted, as well as the explanation of other found findings and the results will be compared with those of other similar studies.
Conclusions .This should consist of the statements inferred from and supported by the data presented. It is important to note here the limitations of the study. Suggestions for some research areas can also be included from the study conducted.

Review Articles

The purpose is to examine the published literature on a specific topic or problem. Controls, collates or analyzes works already made in the attempt to synthesize the results and conclusions of different publications that have been presented on a topic.
This type of writing can be recognized as a study in itself, in which the reviewer has a question, collects data about it (in the form of previous articles), analyzes them and draws a conclusion.

The following types of revisions can be made:

a) Bibliographic review. This is derived from the analysis, comparison, interpretation and adaptation to a specific situation of the existing bibliography on a specific topic in the field of health, social sciences or administrative sciences.

b) Systematic review and meta-analysis. . Critical presentations of topics of interest for the discipline being studied, as well as for practice and education are included. The body of a review article should be a review based on the global and scientific evidence of the literature, accompanied by a critical analysis and leading to reasonable conclusions. In this review, the details of the methodology used to search the literature should be provided, i.e. the databases consulted, the search terms used and inclusive, the dates and any other selectivity criteria, if applicable.

Presentation of revisions format: Introduction, Development, Conclusions
In the development of the review article, it is recommended to use titles that describe what is presented in that part of the writing. Omit the use of the word "Development" to name the corresponding part.
the review is of the systematic type and meta-analysis, the corresponding methodology must be included in the presentation format.

Brief Communications

These present preliminary results or communications of an investigation that has been finished or is still in process. Acceptable versions include syntheses presented in congresses, conferences or scientific meetings, which involve few results, but which usually are not enough for a complete publication (full papers).
These writings describe or explain a finding which, due to its scientific importance, deserves rapid publication. Relevant results can be included that should be disseminated quickly and not in detail, with conclusive information, but insufficient for its extensive analysis.

Requirements: 
Minimum range: 1500 words, maximum: 3000 words.
They should be written following the items of an original article but succinctly.

Trails

These include works of reflection, analysis and discussion of a critical nature, on the phenomenon, process or problem under study that, due to its relevance or relevance, contribute to the reformulation, theoretical or methodological conceptualization of said phenomenon, process or problem.

Requirements: 
Minimum range: 2500 words, maximum: 10000 words.
These must have a coherent structure and be supported by pertinent and updated information.
Format for the presentation of reviews: Introduction, Development, Conclusions.
In the development of the review article, it is recommendable to use titles that describe what is presented in that part of the writing. Omit the use of the word "Development" to name the corresponding part.

Practical experiences

These include works that contribute to the updating of criteria and behaviors of the daily practice of professionals in any of its different spheres of activity.
In the case of the health field, the internship experiences contribute to the update, through the application of nursing processes, protocols or clinical guidelines, clinical cases, procedures, innovation or implementation of new techniques or technologies.
In the case of other areas, this contribution can be made through the exhibition of methods and techniques of teaching and learning.

Requirements:
Minimum range: 1500 words, maximum: 4000 words.
Presentation of revisions format: Introduction, Development, Conclusions.
Introduction. The main concepts of the topic under study will be identified and the justification, the purposes and the contribution of the topic to knowledge and disciplinary practice will be included.
Developing. The different components of the process of attention developed, methods or techniques, instruments, devices and procedures used will be described. For this section, use titles that describe what is presented in it.
Conclusions. These will be derived from the analysis of the corresponding situation and will be related to the purpose of study; they will indicate the contributions of the topic addressed on professional practice.

Notes

These are short writings on general subjects in health sciences, social sciences or administration sciences, which expose fundamental or interesting aspects of a topic relevant to the discipline in question. The approach is oriented to scientific dissemination.

Requirements:
Minimum range: 1500 words, maximum: 3000 words.
Format for the presentation of reviews: Introduction, Development, Conclusions. For the development section, use titles that describe what was presented in it.

Reviews

These consist of an analysis or critical commentary, of one or several scientific writings of interest for health sciences, social sciences or administration sciences.
This section is evaluated by a single reviewer in blind arbitration.
Requirements:
Minimum range: 1000 words, maximum: 2500 words.
Format for the presentation of reviews: Introduction, Development, Conclusions. It is not necessary to write the corresponding titles for each section. A minimum of words that introduce each section is required.

 

University Life

In this section works are only published by invitation of the corresponding authorities, related to the research, teaching and development promotion activities carried out by the Universidad de la Sierra Sur.
This section is evaluated by reviewers assigned by the Universidad de la Sierra Sur. No blind arbitration.
Requirements:
Minimum range: 1000 words, maximum: 3500 words.
Format for the presentation of reviews: Introduction, Development, Conclusions. For the development section, use titles that describe what was presented in it.

 

Evaluation process

Once a collaboration has been received, it will be reviewed if it complies with the general publication guidelines (instructions for authors). Once this phase has been approved, it will be sent to the Editorial Committee, which will determine the relevance of the texts with the editorial line of the journal and its publication guidelines. After this stage, the writings will be reviewed by the arbitration of the referees, who will be specialists in the area of study referred to in the content of the text.
The arbitration will be by pairs, double blind, for all the articles except those written for the sections of Reviews and University Life, whose evaluation is mentioned in the Section Policies. If the writing includes the use of statistical techniques or mathematics in general, it will be sent to a third reviewer, a specialist in the area, to carry out the corresponding evaluation. For the arbitration, external evaluators to the publishing institution, the Universidad de la Sierra Sur, will be used. The opinions may be: a) acceptance in its current form, b) acceptance with minimum adjustments, c) conditional acceptance and d) non-acceptance.
Once the review has been concluded by experts in the field, the author will be notified by mail of the results of the evaluation.
As part of the initial evaluation, the authors are obliged to verify that their writings comply with the editorial guidelines of the Salud y Administración. Those writings that do not comply with these guidelines will be returned to the authors.
The editors will send the manuscripts to the referees or reviewers, who will have a period of 20 days to evaluate the works.
The evaluation by pairs will have a minimum duration of three months and a maximum of six months. This period may be shortened or extended in exceptional cases.
Once the editing process has begun, no additions or modifications will be accepted and the editors reserve the right to introduce the style corrections that they consider pertinent. When the arbitrators condition the acceptance of a work on the completion of modifications, the authors will have a maximum of 15 calendar days to carry them out.

The period that elapses from the reception of the document to the publication is on average 3 months and a half to seven months (14 to 28 weeks).

Anti-Plagiarism Policy

In order to avoid malpractice, scientists adhere to the use of tools that support the detection of plagiarism. It is specifically stated that institutional plagiarism detector software plages is used in the review of all articles received.

Those writings in which plagiarism or auto-plagiarism is identified will not be considered for the evaluation process.

 Open Access Policy

The Salud y Administración Journal adheres to the Open Access policy, so it does not charge authors to apply nor readers to access, published articles.

This license allows others to download the works and share them with other personnel, as long as their authorship is acknowledged; however, the works cannot be modified in any way nor can they be used commercially.

Salud y Administración in its printed version is within Latindex-Directorio and Latindex-Catalog, with 100% compliance with the requirements requested in the Catalog.
 

Frequency of Publication

Salud y Administración is a triannual publication released every four months.
The call to publish is open throughout the year.

 

Privacy policy and treatment of personal data

Salud y Administración conforms to current Mexican legislation on transparency and access to public information; that is, it acts in accordance with the Federal Law on Transparency and Access to Government Public Information. Regarding the performance of the reviewers, this complies with current Mexican legislation on privacy and treatment of personal data and sensitive data; that is, they act in accordance with the Federal Law for the Protection of Personal Data Held by Individuals, its Regulations and the General Law for the Protection of Personal Data in Possession of Obliged Subjects.
Additionally, Salud y Administración also conforms to the international standards established by the organizations of which Mexico is a party, such as those issued by the UN and the OAS.

Policy on protection of research participants

In order to comply with the rules of the General Health Law and the provisions of the National Bioethics Commission, the authors must attach the approval of the respective Committee to the submission of their work, either from the Research Committee or the Research Ethics Committee., Biosecurity Committee or Hospital Bioethics Committee. For clinical trials, the National Registry of Clinical Trials (RNEC) number issued by the Ministry of Health must be sent through the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks.
For articles that involve animals, the approval of the Ethics Committee in Animal Research or, failing that, an Ethics in Research Committee must be submitted. In cases where the support of an institution (a hospital, a company or a university, for example) has been requested to obtain data, a letter from the corresponding institution must be attached, in which the Vo. Bo. is granted to the publication.

Policy on Data Sharing and Retention

Salud y Administración adheres to the ethical principles and code of conduct of the American Psychological Association regarding data sharing and retention by researchers. Additionally, it adheres to the policy of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) in relation to the obligation to share the data generated by clinical trials.

Policies regarding the use of third-party images and graphic materials

Salud y Administración requires authors to ensure that all images, graphics, tables, and other graphic materials used in their manuscripts comply with the following conditions:

Authorization and rights

Authors must guarantee that they hold the right to use all images included in their manuscripts or, alternatively, have obtained the necessary permissions from the copyright holders.

Attribution

It is mandatory to include proper references or attribution for all images, even if they are open access or sourced from public content repositories.

Public domain images

When using public domain images or those under Creative Commons licenses, the source and type of license must be specified.

Prohibition of unlicensed images

The use of images obtained from the internet without the proper usage licenses or those that infringe on copyright laws is not permitted.

Authorization for recognizable persons or institutions

For images that include recognizable individuals, institutions, or logos, explicit authorization must be obtained for their use.

Original material

Whenever possible, authors are encouraged to use original graphic materials created by themselves.

Policy on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in article preparation

Transparency in AI usage

Salud y Administración allows the use of artificial intelligence tools solely for purposes such as grammar review, diagram generation, or abstract translation, as long as the use of such tools is explicitly disclosed in the text or in a footnote.

Responsibility of authorship

Authors are fully responsible for the content of the manuscript, including sections generated with AI assistance. Authorship of the article cannot be attributed to AI tools, as these tools cannot assume ethical responsibility or meet the legal and academic requirements for publication.

Restrictions on AI usage

The use of AI for fabricating or manipulating data, or for generating text or images in ways that mislead about their origin or authenticity, is strictly prohibited. Additionally, content generated with AI must be carefully reviewed and edited by the authors to ensure its accuracy and appropriateness for the academic context.

Detection of AI-generated content

The journal reserves the right to use AI content detection tools to ensure compliance with this policy. If undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI tools is identified, the manuscript will be rejected.

Declaration in the manuscript

If AI is used, authors must include a declaration in the acknowledgments or a specific section of the manuscript detailing how and for what purpose AI was used. For example:
"The authors of this manuscript declare the use of [AI tool name], employed for [specify purpose, such as translation or style editing]."

Policy on Corrections and Related Issues

Salud y Administración adheres to the ethical principles and code of conduct of the American Psychological Association with respect to published data and its subsequent corrections as well as the recommendations of the ICMJE for the correction and control of versions of the publications.

Salud y Administración is housed in the repository of the Universidad de la Sierra Sur, a site that has been set up to disseminate all the scientific, academic and cultural contents of the university community, in free and open access: http://revista.unsis.edu.mx

Article Publishing Charges (APCs)

The articles published in print or online, have no associated production, processing, or publication costs for the authors. As such, the journal does not maintain a policy of payment exemption.

Responsibilities of the Editorial Committee

  • Define the processes of simple or double blind arbitration, as well as the publication of the manuscript, in order that the authors know the totality of the selection criteria.
  • Arbitrate any controversy raised in the review process.

Editor Responsibilities  

  • Assume responsibility for what has been published in Salud y Administración.
  • Guarantee the selection of the most relevant and qualified reviewers in order to have a critical, objective and expert appreciation or revision of the manuscripts.
  • Decide together with the Committee the acceptance, modification or rejection of the manuscripts based on: compliance with the editorial criteria, the opinion sent by the reviewers and the relevance, clarity and originality of the manuscript.
  • Guarantee a process by pairs, double blind.
  • Evaluate the content of the manuscripts regardless of race, nationality by reason of sex, color, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, origin, culture, nationality, citizenship, language, religious creed, ideology, political or philosophical affiliation, state civil, economic or social condition, type of occupation, degree of instruction, disability, pregnancy, or other conditions that aim to nullify or impair the conditions of equality of the rights of the authors.
  • Guarantee the anonymity of the authors in the evaluation processes of the manuscript.
  • Guarantee the anonymity of authors and reviewers in the evaluation processes of the manuscript.
  • Guarantee non-disclosure of the content of the manuscript.
  • Inform the person responsible for the manuscript of the editorial process and the transmission of the results in a timely manner.

Responsibility of the associated editors

  • Carry out a critical, exhaustive, honest, constructive and unbiased review of the manuscripts sent by the Editor.
  • Inform the Editor about their competence or suitability to manage the editorial process of the manuscript and make the corresponding revisions, in the times and forms established by Salud y Administración.
  • Guarantee opinions in which the evaluation complies with the standards and requirements established by Salud y Administración.
  • Omit the evaluation of the manuscripts at the moment they find the existence of a current or potential conflict of interest.
  • Support the manuscript with valid and sufficient arguments and decide on its acceptance, modification or rejection.
  • Inform the Editor of the unethical behavior of the authors of the manuscripts, such as the previous publication of the whole or partial manuscript, that it is in another evaluation process, the existence of forgotten references, among others.
  • Guarantee the confidentiality of the letter received.

Responsibility of the authors

  • Guarantee that the manuscript contains information or data obtained in a legal and ethical manner.
  • Guarantee that the writing is unpublished and original; that is to say:
  • Previously, it has not been published in whole or in part, either in print or electronically.
  • Previously it has not been submitted to another evaluation process.
  • Ensure that the manuscript does not contain plagiarism or self-plagiarism.
  • Include in the manuscript the correct recognition of the sources.
  • Guarantee that those who act as authors have made a significant contribution in the drafting process of the manuscript, and must be indicated in a hierarchical order according to the degree of responsibility.
  • Whoever acts as correspondence author must provide the necessary and accurate information of address, telephone numbers, etc. to favor effective communication with the Editor or associated publishers. Additionally, the correspondence author must guarantee that each one of the co-authors agreed on the final version of the manuscript as well as on the final presentation for its publication.
  • The authors must declare any current or potential conflict of interests, which will be carried out by filling and sending the corresponding format.
  • The authors have the obligation to inform the Editor of the existence of any error or inaccuracy in the manuscript; as well as to cooperate to correct it or, if applicable, to retract it.
  • They must make available to the Editor the sources, documents or any probative form supporting the research of the manuscript, in cases in which the Editor deems it necessary for its revision.
